Hiring range $36,203.07 - $50,000.00.  Salary will be based on overall qualifications.  Relevant certifications & education will qualify for higher salary within the range.

The Job Description

General Statement of Duties

Performs semi-skilled and skilled trade’s work maintaining and repairing a variety of automotive and specialized equipment.

Distinguishing Features of the Class

An employee in this class performs a variety of duties servicing county vehicles and equipment and assisting another mechanic in repair activities. The employee conducts preventive maintenance and repairs on automotive, small and large trucks, and small equipment. Work also includes assisting another mechanic in more difficult equipment diagnosis and repair work, and assuring garage cleanliness and order.  Mechanic II level is differentiated by that level requiring lead responsibility, managing work orders and a greater amount of equipment service work performed. Work performed under regular supervision of the Transportation Services Director and evaluated through periodic discussions, observation and the proper functioning of the equipment maintained.

Desirable Education and Experience

Graduation from high school and considerable experience in servicing and repairing equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license; CDL preferred upon hire. Possession of N.C. Safety and Emissions Inspector’s License within six months of hire.
