Hiring range $36,203.07 - $39,823.37.

Role requires evening and weekend schedule depending on Civic Center events and programs.

The Job Description
General Statement of Duties
Performs intermediate semi-skilled work in a variety of facility maintenance assignments for the Civic Center.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class provides support in accomplishing the smooth operation of events at the Civic Center auditorium and conference center facilities. Work involves setting up for events, cleaning up before and after events, and assisting during the events. The employee assists with general set-up and general operations of the facilities. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Civic Center Building Supervisor and is evaluated in terms of building cleanliness, proper and timely set-up and customer satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Tasks
• Sets up stages, tables, chairs, public announcement system and other needs to client specifications for events and functions; cleans facility before and after events.
• Assists with the logistics associated with the planning of events and scheduling of staff.
• Performs various tasks associated with the custodial profession, such as sweeping, moping, striping, waxing and buffing floors, cleaning restrooms; removes trash from facility; picks up trash outside of facility’s perimeter and maintains porch areas.
• Prepares surfaces for painting, paints walls, ceilings, doors, windows, cabinets and equipment.
• Assists in maintenance and repair activities involving plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting and related work; interacts with contractors as needed.
• Uses hand tools and power tools and operates various types of small and large equipment.
• Inspects equipment in the facility to ensure that it in proper working order.
• Provides monitoring and technical support for events and productions held at the facility; sets up public announcement system, rearranges room as needed, hangs banners and provides other assistance to customers.
• Assists with load-ins and load-outs of equipment for concerts and events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of theater and performing arts equipment and setup requirements.
• Knowledge of safety rules, regulations, procedures and practices.
• Knowledge of facilities maintenance and repair and cleaning including industrial size cleaning equipment and practices.
• Knowledge of minor electrical, plumbing, and HVAC maintenance and repair principles and practices.
• Ability to express ideas effectively and communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
• Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other clients, customers, other employees, supervisors, and the general public.
• Ability to use small office equipment (fax, copier, etc.) and kitchen equipment, such as coffee makers, etc.
Physical Requirements
• Work requires the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions.
• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
• Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
• Visual acuity is required for close vision and ability to adjust focus work requires the use of measuring devices, operation of machines and operation of motor vehicles or equipment.
• Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, risk of electric shock and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places and exposure to blood-borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
• Work is generally in a moderately loud noise location (e.g. business office with typewriters and/or computer printers, light traffic).
Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from high school and minimal experience in facility maintenance, event set-up and cleaning; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
