The Job Description
General Statement of Duties
Performs intermediate skilled technical work installing and maintaining computer hardware, software, and peripherals, troubleshooting system and user problems, maintaining networks, servers and telephone systems.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to perform a diverse array of complex technical work. This position requires an employee to be flexible, be able to multitask, think intuitively, implore time management and project management skills, and possess troubleshooting ability. This position requires both remote and on-site support to include travel to many sites around the County. An employee in this position should require minimal supervision and be able to use initiative and good work ethic to accomplish assigned tasks. This position also requires participating on a rotating on-call schedule to support 24x7 County operations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the IT Director and is evaluated through conferences, efficiency and effectiveness of the computer operations, feedback from users of the system and yearly progress reports.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Tasks
• Develops, installs and supports all County related technical systems to include hardware, software, and all other related technical components.
• Answers telephone; receives and responds to technical questions via telephone and in person.
• Performs proactive maintenance and trouble shooting; assists employees with computer issues and software updates.
• Installs, configures, upgrades, troubleshoots and repairs computer workstations and peripheral equipment; provides support for, configures and troubleshoots the VoIP phone system.
• Configures, maintains, upgrades and documents basic windows server and associated hardware and software; implements appropriate security measures; ensures servers are working properly.
• Attends meetings, workshops and training seminars to keep abreast of changes in technology.
• Operates Helpdesk Ticketing system to track and respond to technical issues in the County. Effectively manages multiple projects and tasks.
• Prepares written documentation for technical systems, such as Standard Operating Procedures, and participates in cross-training/knowledge sharing with IT staff.
• Pursues continuing education for technical and professional development.
• Participates in rotating on-call schedule to support 24x7 operations; performs after-hours work for various upgrades, repairs, and maintenance.
• Trains users on new and existing technical systems.
Additional Job Duties
• Supports the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when activated as required.
• Performs related duties as required.

• Skill in the use of personal computers, related software applications, hardware and peripheral equipment.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with associates, contractors, vendors and the general public.
• Prior experience with local government, specifically Counties, is highly desired.
Physical Requirements
• Work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
• Work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, climbing and balancing, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting and lifting.
• Work requires close vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception and color perception.
• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
• Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
• Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
• Worker is regularly exposed to the risk of electrical shock and occasionally requires and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
• Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office with typewriters and/or computer printers, light traffic).
Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from a two-year college with a degree in Information Technology or related field, plus one to two years of demonstrable experience in a technical support or information technology specialist role or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
• Possession of relevant professional certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, etc. preferred.
• Experience with remote monitoring and management tools.
• Experience with Microsoft Configuration Manager, Active Directory, and Group Policy Management.
• Knowledge of virtual machines and virtual desktop infrastructure.
