The Job Description
General Statement of Duties
Performs human support work providing support and services to families and individuals who are at risk for abuse, neglect, or dependency, collaborating with community service providers to meet the needs of clients, scheduling and transporting clients to medical and other appointments, and preparing reports.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class works with clients who have multiple problems characterized by complications of mental illness, drug/alcohol abuse, retardation, child abuse, etc. that affect techniques in the service progress. At this level, at least half of the time is spent in developing job and housing resources in addition to providing individual training in the various aspects of household management and personal/health care. Cases are assigned on an on-going basis. Work requires more frequent handling of emergency cases such as evictions. The employee is also engaged in full-time involvement in group training in a variety of content areas. The employee may be involved in a combination of these roles, but the predominant amount of time is spent in the more complex areas of developing job and housing resources or group training. Transportation is also a significant responsibility of this position. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the assigned supervisor and is evaluated by a review of records, reports, discussions, and by observation in terms of the overall accuracy of the work.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Tasks
• Supervises visits between family members at various locations.
• Re-enforces need for healthy nutrition, family planning, education, housekeeping skills, and budgeting.
• Provides a wide range of educational and supportive services to individuals and families including budgeting, childcare skills, housekeeping skills, and home management skills as defined by service plan.
• Serves as liaison between clients, social workers, and service providers.
• Schedules and transports clients to visitation, medical appointments, court appointments, shopping, etc.
• Prepares reports and other types of correspondence; prepares and maintains files and records.

• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with clients, associates, and the general public.
Physical Requirements
• Work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force to move objects.
• Work regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, climbing or balancing, repetitive motions, and occasionally requires pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Work requires close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.
• Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities.
• The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, infectious diseases, and is required to function around prisoners and mental patients.
• Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from high school and moderate experience in human services work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
